Great reference guide and intro book

Really great book to whet your appetite for stumpwork. Good illustrations, nice variety of stitches and techniques are covered in this book. A really good "go-to" for the person who has been doing needle arts but wants to try something new.

Great for instructions

This is not what i expected... It has the usual A-Z format with step-by-step pictures of the instructions but the Projects are not beautiful as I thought they would be. The 1st few pages begin with general information about stumpwork: materials needed (i.e. fabric, threads, wire, beads) tools (i.e. needles, hoops, scissors) design transfer methods.
Then starts the instructional section, which covers surface embroidery stitches (raised and padded stitches),
& techniques (i.e. padding and slip techniques, wirework techniques, needlelace techniques, and beading techniques).
Then comes the 20 Designs. (I would recommend "Stumpwork Flowers" by Sachiko Morimoto for the projects, Jane Nicholas books are not for beginners, but her Projects are astoundingly beautiful). In my opinion a project should be beautiful & accessible even for a beginner.
At the back of the book there are line drawings for all the designs and their elements. There is a variety of designs, and they're suited for beginners, intermediate and advanced embroiderers.
Paper quality & colors are great. A great feature of this book is that the corners of the pages, which we hold to turn the pages are rounded. Thus it won't get bent by frequent referring & turning.

Wonderful book for beginners or experienced needlework addicts. Great illustrations of the techniques, wonderful practice figures. Clear & easy to follow.
