I came across this book when looking for "adult" coloring books - you know - that thing that is all the rage? I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. This is at its heart an adventure story, with some amazing artwork to draw the reader in (or adversely, a beautifully drawn picture book with a well written story to flesh out the drawings). I found the paper to be a heavy duty stock, and the giant fold-out pages took my colored pencils very well. While I have really enjoyed other graphics-only coloring books - I have found that the story speaks to the avid reader in me - something that I didn't realize I had been missing. THere are more books in this series - and I plan to get them all.

A fun and unique new take on adult coloring books!

What a great idea! This coloring book is so unique because it includes an actual written story to go along with the pictures. Every left side page has the written story, and on the right is a picture to go along. However, that right side page actually folds out into a double page! So, you end up with a one-page AND a two-page image for every page of story. Pretty neat!
Overall I would say this is a great product that is a lot of fun! There is another book - "10,000 B.C. (before colouring)" that is also available through the same seller, if dinosaurs and cavemen are more your fancy! I've got both and am having a lot of fun simply because they're so different from all the other adult coloring books. Don't get me wrong, I love Johanna Basford and Millie Marotta and a pile of other coloring artists, but these books are simply unique.
The only reason I failed to give this product 5 stars is due to the paper quality. Colored pencils work well, and I've been blending them with gamsol too. However, there isn't a whole lot of tooth to the paper, so if you like to do a lot of layers, you might struggle a little. Gel pens rolled on smoothly and didn't bleed through (I've tried Gelly Roll so far).

Shock and disappointment

I bought both books, however, I feel cheated. First, packaging was terrible both arrived a bit banged up with slightly crushed spine on one of them. These are very soft flexible covers and should have been better protected considering shipping was extra. Then the big one, wow, within a single image there was obvious inconsistent line work, some areas dark line and others quite faded. But wait, there's more, as I colored and burnished, the image lines on the backside faintly transferred to the page it was facing. I have NEVER seen this even on the cheapest of coloring books. Oddly, one of the books is thinner than the other, I will set about to confirm page quantity for both now as I believe some pages are actually missing! on one of the books because the spiral spine was not closed all the way. In conclusion this was very disappointing, contacted seller and NO reply. I want new undamaged books please, if you're listening. $25+ for garbage.
